A1 Golf Links was established in 2003 to provide a popular venue for golfing enthusiasts.
Our course directory with geographic searching has proven quite poplular.
Recently we updated our web-directory and replaced the categories with an intelligent search.
We originally started with a list of nearly 9,000 websites and over 100 unique categories.
Using a variety of automated means and actual site reviews, we reduced the list down to 2,500.
We added what is called a tag-cloud to track top golf related terms from all the sites in
our directory. The tag-cloud displays the top most popular terms and the more popular the
term, the larger the text size. It creates an interesting visual navigation tool for golf
related terms. We regularly crawl all of the links in our directory to refresh the content.
The directory is sorted based on a weighted formula using a variety of data we assemble.
One of the biggest sources of marketing data is the Alexa rank from http://www.alexa.com.
Alexa data is not 100% reliable, but if a site is generating any traffic at all, they will
have a rank.
Another source of data and the highest priority in sorting matching sites is the A1 counter.
The A1 counter is simply a logo that is placed on a web-site that pulls an image from our
server everytime a visitor views the page. We track the number of times the A1 counter is
viewed and the number of times it is clicked to increase the position of participating sites.
This is a very unique service and one that is easy to take advantage of for any golf oriented
web-site. Any golf related web-site can submit to our directory, but over time sites are
dropped that do not meet our minimum quality requirements and do not use the A1 counter.
